A fantastic book! Finally a hero who deserves the title 100%. He's big, strong, sexy, rich, sensitive, patriotic, etc., etc. Right off the bat, he saves the heroine (think a tall Tom Cruise). The heroine was smart, brave, vulnerable, super likeable. The book was humorous and touchingat the same time. The only thing I would have liked was for the author to write from two POV.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I definitely will be reading more of them. This book has it all, suspense, romance, humor, alpha male (or the tank, as Skylar thinks of him), a female who's human (after all she has the red head's temper), and both main characters have their own insecurities. There's also some great secondary characters - John, Cliff's PA and Tess, Skylar's coworker and friend. Would definitely recommend reading this book.
Well, even in the worst situations, Mary Hughes can make me laugh. Hot Chips and Sand had a little of everything … a hot male (with secrets), an alpha female (who had self-esteem issues), a madman, a kidnapping and then, of course, love. Yes, she definitely has a way to mix all of these things together and bring us a story that will make you laugh, love and cringe a little … that will make you want to slap the hero up-side the head and yell at the heroine to open her eyes.
Skyler Jones and Sir Humphrey Hawkesclyffe were an interesting couple … computer geeks, nerds with a twist. A kidnap victim and her hero. She’s a computer genius and he’s the ultimate computer genius with his own company and on the cutting edge of creating a chip that could revolutionize security. He will not have anyone but the best for his company and, in his eyes, it’s Skyler. He just has to convince her that she is what his company needs and that she could do the job. She refuses to work for him if he’s really working for the man that kidnapped her and working to secure Middle Yemen. She’ll agree only if she works on Apple Pi and not Pizza Pi. So, Apple Pi it is … or so she thinks. Until Pizza Pi bites her and she’s back in Middle Yeman helping her save the man that saved her.
I got such a kick out of Hot Chips and Sand. It really was laugh-out-loud funny in places and intriguing in others. But, that’s how Mary Hughes is. She can take the most mundane subjects and turn them into interesting reads. I really have no idea if I would be able to read a dark romance or suspense if she wrote one since I would be waiting for the punch line throughout the story. And, no, this isn’t Meiers Corners so there’s no hot vampires but there is a hot, alpha-spy-male that makes up for it. Her stories always have little underlying messages and Hot Chips and Sands was no exception. What did I get from this one? Well, let’s see, there were quite a few. First, don’t judge a book by its cover ... there may be more within those covers than meets the eye. Then there’s don’t always believe what other people tell you … they just may have their own ulterior motives. Third, trust yourself to be the person other people see and not what you were told you were. Finally, follow your heart and stop living in the past.

This reminded me of old Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn movies. Alpha male and sparky, feisty female with passion running hot in a modern setting.
Skyler Jones is a brilliant programmer and a good manager but when she is asked to work on an urgent project she never expected to be kidnapped! When she manages to get away from her captors, she literally runs into a tall, handsome, musclebound tank of a man, Cliff. He helps her evade the bad guys and then turns into a kind of superhero/super secret squirrel agent and gets her out of the country.
Sir Humphrey Hawkesclyffe (Cliff) is a billionaire, sometime spy and all around nice guy. But he is used to getting what he wants and when he crashes into Skyler he realises she is one of the candidates to lead a project he is working on. But there are so many layers to the project he needs someone to shepherd all the geniuses in the same direction, Skyler is just what he needs!
Skyler has been burned with office romances before but she is drawn to Cliff, all the conflicting and clashing sides of him! But she is capable of saying "NO" to him and refuses to work on the programme for her former captor. But there is much more to Cliffs plan than helping out this despotic dictator.
Rom-com, suspense, tech thriller all in one!! Cliff is brilliant and really jumped off the page. Skyler was a great mix of confident leader, tech genius and beleaguered by low self esteem. I thought she was strong, sassy and sexy. I loved the little side story involving John and I really want him and his new lady love to have a book of their own!
Skylar and Cliff make a great team. The romance between them is fun and the drama is awesome. It was a great read. I loved it
Witty dialogue, a strong main characters, and an action filled plot make for a fun read. Also proves that honesty is always the best policy.
Wow I loved this book. Skyler was a computer programmer. She was highered by a man from the middle east to design a program. He ended up kidnapping her. When she was making her escape she ran into Cliff who helped save her. This book had action, suspense and even some humor..loved
I am a huge fan of this author and this book is another plumb in her hat. The hero and heroine are easy to love and the whit and humor make them human. The overcome the past sperately and together but create a wonderful forever ending!
One problem was that the book could not be opened on my computer but if you have a kindle or phone app you are good to go!
